There’s No Buddy like a Brother

My mom gave me a cute sign when Wyatt was born that says “There’s no Buddy Like a Brother”. I love it. I love how true it is. And for some reason today, I was thinking a lot about it.

You’d probably think I was witnessing a loving interaction between the two; Dax with his halo and Wyatt with his sweet squeals laughing at his brother and adoration in both their eyes.

Wrong!

What made me think of this quote, how there is no ‘buddy’ like a brother, was when I had to explain to Dax what a “cheap shot” and a “sucker punch” was. Seriously.

This morning Dax worked some pretty major WWF moves on Wyatt without the poor little guy even seeing it coming. I had to explain to Dax that it wasn’t fair for him to body slam his brother, especially when Wyatt has no idea it’s coming. Forget the lecture that Dax is two years older, 20 pounds heavier, knows how to run, knows how to talk, and so on and so forth. We’ve been through all that, and it doesn’t hold any bearing at all.

So we have a new rule. No cheap shots and no sucker punches.

Well, that’s only the rule for the time being.

I think during one of these smackdowns, me and Wyatt had a moment. Dax was performing some super flying clothesline, neck binder, drop kick, belly bounce move, and Wyatt and I made eye contact. Wyatt wasn’t crying, he wasn’t squealing, and he wasn’t yelling. I knew he knew I was sorry his brother was going crazy. But, I honestly think Wyatt didn’t care. He was thinking that one day, not too far off, he was going to get Dax back. He was going to be able to put Dax in a head hold, and fire punch Dax in the stomach, and super clothesline him.

And I may have to pad the walls and buy new furniture and make a few hundred trips to the emergency room, but Wyatt deserves to get his revenge.

Because really, at the end of the day, there truly is no buddy like a brother.

Bryn you need to write a book woman!! You are so funny when you tell stories and I love how you have told Dax "No cheap shots" or "Sucker punches"!! Someday Wyatt will get him back...but for now I'm sure he is taken notes on how his older brother fights so he can use different skills to get back at him!! Boy I cannot way for boys in my house!!!:)

That is cute actually and you are RIGHT, Wyatt will get him back for sure. The part of the story that struck me is how different our lives are....sucker punches? clotheslines? Granted I know what these are but usually it is me having to tell Madison that I can't have a snuggy-doo right now, or no, you don't need to kiss your baby dolls 17 times before we leave the house. Oh the wonderful differences between boys and girls! HAHA!

I do love the cute way you make up rules!

It is so true!! Zack and Jack definitely have their moments when they get along great, but they sure fight too, and I know that in the near future Jack is going to get Zack back. It is already starting to happen. Sometimes Jackson will hit Zack on the head and Zack will come and tell me, and I have to tell him sometimes that Jack learned it from Zack and he is getting him back. Zack does not like that( and Jack always gets a talking to). Never a dull moment!!

I love that saying. I totally agree with Dara-worlds apart these boys and girls. I didn't even know what half those moves were though. We hear things like "that makes my feeling hurt" and "that makes me sad" Poor Joe, we need a boy!!

That is so cute. I like that saying too. I think I need a little sign in my house saying that too. To be honest when my boys play nicely or when they are fighting I am still glad they have each other and will get to grow up as "buddies". It makes me happy.
