GIRL

Picture taken by our ultrasound tech and paintings courtesy of Dax and Wyatt (don't worry, they painted a boy sign too!)

I don't know if you heard...but we're having a girl!

It's been a few weeks since we found out. It's been a little wild. It's taken a few weeks for it to sink in. I'm not sure I will even be entirely convinced she's a girl until I am holding her in my arms. But we've had a few ultrasounds and they're 100%. It's a girl.

I really thought it was a boy. And, if I'm being honest, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed it wasn't. I know boys. My boys are the world to me. Our home is what it is; crazy, rambunctious, wild and loud, because of the boys. Throwing another boy into the mix wouldn't mean much change. I think there is something special about family's who have all the same gender. I could totally picture myself strolling around with three little boys. OK, so I'm sure I'd look like a frazzled train wreck going about daily errands rather than enjoying a leisurely stroll, but still, I could picture it. I loved the idea. In my heart of hearts I thought it was another boy.

But now, he is a she. Wow. Here we go! The shock has worn off. The overwhelmingness at starting with nothing, has not. But the excitement and joy has grown and grown. We are thrilled! The boys were hoping for a sister all along. I wasn't sure how that would be for her having these two as older brothers. One of my sister's already said, "She better be tough". At first I thought she was right. But seeing the way they have loved my growing belly, giving her daily hugs and kisses, talking to her and planning her name (so far we have "Girl" from Wyatt and "Marah" like Sarah with an "M" from Dax) they are totally smitten. They will be her protector, her defender, her number one fan, her older brothers. And it is that thought that has me even more in love with them and even more excited for her. She will be one lucky little girl!

Let's be honest though...I don't speak girl! All's I know is superheros, dinosaurs, race cars, wrinkled clothes, shaggy hair, bruised knees and dirty fingernails.

So tell me, what do I need to know about a girl?? I need all the help I can get!

Congratulations!!! I cannot help you on the girl end...except maybe to say...lots of hairbows :) I am the crazy Mom with 3 boys who looks like the funny train reck running around...happily though...a happy crazy mom of 3 boys. (But, I do feel like I am a bit crazy) I am so excited for you. So very excited. That little girl is going to be so lucky to have those two wonderful boys as her brothers. And they are going to be lucky to have her. I love your family.

Ok! Get ready! I have some tips for you!

Tip #1: PINK is not a four-letter word! Just embrace it! :) I have a friend who would not allow her only daughter wear pink. To my friend's horror, by age five, PINK was the only color she would wear! Dress her in pink and by age five her favorite color might be yellow or aqua, like my girls. :)

Tip #2: This tip is mainly for Austin. The lacy part of those cute little bloomers that cover baby girl's diaper when she wears a dress, goes over her bum. Not in the front. If your sweet baby girl shows up at church in her sweet little dress and the lacy part is in the front, we will all know that you dressed her. Of course, that would make all of us other moms jealous that you actually did dress her, so you can disregard this tip if you want brownie points from all of the women in the ward. :)

Tip #3: You can never have enough dress-ups. Always accept hand-me-down dress-ups because when you start those fun all-girl play dates, those little girls will be occupied for hours!

Tip #4: Get to know the Barbie princess movies. They really aren't that bad once you can look past the weird computer animation and some of them have pretty good story-lines and music. Call me and I can give you my personal favorites. (And don't be alarmed if your boys secretly love watching them too.)

Tip #5: Your little girl will probably love trains too. Our girls love playing with Brett's trains as much as he does!

Tip #6: Changing a little girl's diaper is a little more "involved" than changing a little boys'. Let's just say that valleys are trickier than boulders. TMI?

Tip #7: Austin will be hypnotized by her sweet little eyes and her quiver lip. She will use it to her advantage, so be prepared!

Tip #8: Girls are so much more fun to dress than boys! Accessories, accessories, accessories! The opportunities are endless!

Being a "girl" mommy will be more natural to you than you think. You have nothing to worry about! I am so excited for you!

My mom just told me the news last night and I said "yay!!! I'll have to read her blog and see if she has details." I am THRILLED for you. So much fun. It's funny b/c I wasn't anti pink but I just didn't want the traditional pink everything for Mercedes. I bought her baby clothes that were red, blues, yellows, black with white dots, etc. Of course I got a lot of pink stuff too. And guess what, when it came down to it, Mercedes looked cuter in the pinks. I was disappointed when my non-typical oh so cute outfits just weren't as cute on.

P.S. You think your house is crazy w/your boys now, you just wait, the insanity has only begun ;)

P.S.S. I get to see you soon!

CONGRATS!!! Girls are soooooo fun and let me tell you, a girl will bring a little calm feeling to the family! doesnt mean things will quiet down, but she will most definately soften those boys up! Girls are just fun in a different way. I love the loud hussle of a boy, but there is something sweet about a girl :) Its good to have 2 boys ahead of her, hopefully she'll be a little bit tougher with an edge to her.... I dont know if its just me or what...but im dodging princesses like the plauge! but girls will be girls :) and im just saying, maybe your boys will give her a great balance! I think girls that play with trucks and trains are super dang cute! But what do I know...... I love girly girl, but I am trying to avoid it with Lavi if that tells you anything. Good luck! your family is growing and are all so super cute! Miss you guys!

Oh my Brynie you are going to be the cutest mom with 2 boys and a little girl on your hip!! You don't need one ounce of help with keeping this baby girl stylish!! You always look so cute....you will just need a bigger bank account:) Girls clothes, shoes(and they need a pair to go with each outfit), hairbows, jewelry the list is NEVER ending!! But for reals I can't wait to see her and what a lucky sister to have 2 older brothers that are going to smother her with love:) Congrats to you guys...she will melt all of your hearts girls just do. But they are more sensitive and dramatic just like the rest of us:) Luv ya guys

Ditto everything your friend Ruth said. I, however, embraced all things girl. Why not? She may be your only one, so enjoy it to the fullest! I say frily, pink, princesses all around! Your friend was right though, multiple dress-ups and can I add multiple princess shoes. There has to be a pair for every girl playing, and probably an extra one or two for Wyatt if you're lucky like we are with Henry. We're so happy for you guys!

OH my goodness!! Congrats!! I totally know how you feel! I was so scared and overwhelmed when we found out that Hadley was a girl. I started watching everyone around me that had girls trying to figure out what I was supposed to do.
In the end it was different but actually very fun!! Now I am excited that this last one is a girl, and Hadley will have a girl to maybe balance her out.
And just be prepared, there is no stopping a girl from being a girl! I truthfully had not stalked up on girl toys and things, and yet Hadley played "mommy and baby" with anything she could find. Girls just know how to be girls and boys, boys!!
We are so excited for you!!
